Draft

The draft is an event where all teams of a given competition select, in turn, one or several players from a list of those wishing to join that competition. Usually, the order of the picks is defined by the teams' rankings from the previous season.

In Pro Basketball Manager, the draft is held for the American league, with two rounds every year in June. The first picks are decided by a lottery among the teams with the worst records.

If you do not want young prospects to automatically sign with American teams, you can disable the drafts when creating a new career.

Drafts page

The Drafts page displays:

  • Former Drafts: the results of the previous drafts.
  • Mock Draft: a prediction of the future draft picks. These predictions are only available a few months before the draft.

This will help you spot players you may want to scout if your team is taking part in the draft (see Scouting).

Draft day

If your team takes part in the draft, you will follow it live. When it is your turn, you can either select a player from the list (with their estimated level, potential and injury frequency) or let your assistants choose for you.

A recap of the draft will be sent to your inbox.

Drafted players

  • First round picks sign a rookie contract, whose salary depends on their pick position.
  • Second round picks sign a one-year contract.

Trading draft picks

Draft picks can be included in trades. Draft picks are often a leap of faith, but the lower the ranking of the team which owns a pick, the more likely it is to be a high pick. If your offer weakens another team, try to compensate with draft picks!
