First Steps in Your Career

Welcome to Pro Basketball Manager! This page will help you get started once your new career has been created.

As you navigate through each menu in the game, various assistants will provide helpful hints to introduce you to the main gameplay mechanics (if the tutorial was enabled when creating your career). You can display the tutorial of a page again at any time.

If you encounter any bugs, please don't hesitate to reach out to us on our Discord server or via email at pbm@umix-studios.com.

Navigating the game

The main menu gives you access to:

  • Dashboard: a summary of your team, your next games and your job security.
  • Manager: your Messages, your Tracking list and the World search page.
  • Your club: Players, Tactics, Training, Schedule, Finances, Facilities, Staff and Recruitment center.

If you also manage a national team, it has its own menu (see National Team Selection).

Your inbox

Your inbox is a central feature of the game, serving as the hub for interactions with the board, players, staff and your fans. Make sure to check it regularly to stay up to date!

Some messages are important and will pause the simulation, or even prevent you from moving forward until you have answered them. You can choose to always halt simulations when an important message is received in the settings.

Time management

Time only moves forward when you decide it. You can:

  • Go to the Next day.
  • Simulate until the next game.
  • Simulate until a given date.
  • Stop simulation at any time.

When your team has a game, you can choose to play it or to simulate it (see 3D Games).

Your first tasks

1. Meet the board

Your first message invites you to a meeting with the board, which will set your objectives for each competition. Do not miss it: if you do not attend in time, the board will set the objectives itself. See Search for a New Team to understand how objectives impact your career.

2. Check your roster

The Players page allows you to set your default roster, which will be used for all games (you can still change it just before a game).

Select a position for each of the players you want in your roster and a playing time that your assistant coach will follow. Note that the roles you assign to your players will widely influence their attitude on the court (if you give a player the Go-to guy role, they will shoot a lot more). Your assistant coach can also select the roster for you.

3. Set your tactics

Choose your offensive and defensive tactics and create your own plays. See Tactics and Play creation.

4. Prepare your players

Fitness and tiredness have a direct impact on players during a game, as well as on the risk of injury. Make good use of the preseason to make sure that your players start the season in the best possible condition. See Training.

5. Look at your finances

Check your budget and your payroll before making any move on the market. See Finances and Sponsors.

6. Recruit

Use the World search page to find players, teams, competitions and staff. Don't forget to use the filters: select a specific skill or attribute, add more with the + button, then validate to refresh the results. You can customize the columns with the Display option.

Add interesting players to your Tracking list: you will receive news about them (rumors, trades, etc.). See Recruitment, Scouting and Staff.

Playing with a controller

The game can be played with a controller:

  • Hold the indicated button while moving the cursor to slow it down.
  • Hover the controller icon to get a quick summary of the shortcuts.
